How to Jump Start a Car in 5 Simple Steps

Here at Towing Westminster, we know the frustration that comes along with a drained car battery.
Rather than throw your frustration at the vehicle, follow these five simple steps and your vehicle will be roadworthy in next to no time.

Step 1: Arrange Vehicles
You’ll need two vehicles to successfully jump start your car. Place them nose to nose, or side by side, ensuring that they don’t touch.

Step 2: Attach Jumper Cables
Attach a set of jumper cables to the two vehicles, first attaching the positive cable to each vehicle’s positive battery terminal before following suit with the negative cable.

Step 3: Turn Engine On and Leave Running
Turn the engine on for the vehicle which doesn’t have a depleted battery. Leave it running for a few minutes, gently revving the engine from time to time.

Step 4: Try Engine
After about five minutes, try turning the engine on in the vehicle with a drained battery. If it works, you’re in business. If not, try again until it does. (If it doesn’t, you’re going to need professional help).

Step 5: Detach Jumper Cables
With care, remove the jumper cables from each car, leaving the engine running on the one with a previously disabled battery. After leaving the engine running for about 15 minutes, you can switch it off. Your battery should be back in action now.
